Hi Viper

yes you are right in saying the Multiplier will cast longer, and they can can also be a hell of allot more expensive, the fixed spool i believe will reeel in faster with little effort, were as the multiplier inmy veiw will take more effort, depending on the gearing

fixed spool or multi

Postby bigedd on Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:21 am

the debate rages on, i,ve been shore angling for 30 years and i started out using a fixed spool as most of us did and to be honest i much prefer the multiplier, but that said it is totally down to the individual stick to whatever works for you.

thought i would add my opinion to this past thread!

I actually fish with one mag elite multiplier on a Daiwa Sansdtorm

and a Shimano fixed spool reel on a Shimano Stratic Surf Beachcaster

I find it easier to control heavier fish on my multiplier and of course casting further..

But i like both i must say.

it depends relay i use a multi when i am fishing for fun i enjoy casting with it at the butt of the rod, but when i am match fishing i 9/10 would use a fixed spool the only time i would use a multi in match fishing is if i am targting thornback rays, the 525 supermag xtra has more power to bulley the fish and stop it runing in to other anglers lines i think i am going ray bashing this weekend so the 525 is what i will be useing, this hole FS V Multi reel has been going on for years the answer is both most match anglers will keep an extra fixed spool as backup in there box even if they use a multi i know i do, if you are starting out in fishing or are in the first year or 2 then stick to fixed spools till you get to know what your doing multiplier reels can be very hard to get use to but they are more fun to use at the same time. i use a 15ft k2 blue metal for my fixed spool and a 13ft penn villan for my multi and with a 3 hook rig, bait,5oz lead they both can hit 100 yards
