Downhill Bass

Postby Big G on Tue Mar 09, 2010 4:54 pm

hey guys

this is my first post for a long time. me and my mate fished downhill on sat night for the first time in a very long time as we heard their was some bass about. we fished from 8.00pm till 3.30am, using rag tipped with squid/mack start off very quiet a few hours in one rod took a mighty hit but nothing their, we then hear the guys down to the right of us have 2 nice bass, not wanting any bait to go to waist we decided to stay till it was done as the bass being caught gave us hope. then at around 01.40 my mates rod got pulled of the stand and we were thinking this could be a big fish and when he lifted it he knew he had somthing on. this turned out to be a nice bass around 4.5lbs his first for a long time. not being one to be outdone i baited up and casted out only for my rod to take a modest hit bout 15/20 minutes later thinking it might be a small bass untill it started fighting it fought very hard and turned out to be a nice 6lbs bass :D. Ithink we would have fished on but ran out of bait. we hope to get back down this weekend.

Good going Big G well done that is the way it usually happens on that beach one person gets one then so do the rest fishing the same area.
I find it fish's best at that time of the night when it quietens down a bit and there is no cars driving about it.

we always fish the same spot dont know if that is wise or not, but we come on the beach and go up left to were the wee brick bunker is and you have the small islands just in front of it, thats were we always fish. very good fighting fish i am sure if their was anyone else on the beach they would have heard the shouts of us lol.

ah yes i know the spot.

i am not sure myself if its wise to fish the same spot all the time but they way i looked at it was if you had found a feature that attracted fish and assuming it still there then why not. although i do occasionly move around to find more spots.
trouble is those beaches are so bloody big.

true the beaches are so big, we fish the same spot because i have confidence in it, i just belive if you have no confidence in were your fishing you wont catch any fish.

was out on friday night the 12th.

my mate had a 4lb2oz bass and the rest of us had nothing, not even a bite.

it helps alot to have confidence in where you are fishing,

case in point - of the 3 guys out on friday night the one who had the fish had never fished this particular spot, was so disheartend, by his 2years of trying to catch his first , i basically promised him there was bass there that night!!
i felt 90% sure they would be there too, based on previous catches etc. so having confidence in fishing marks is a good thing i think.

pity i the rest of us never caught though.

i saw ones fishing that mark you mentioned on friday but never stopped to chat.
